Just a small sampling of all the great iPhone and iPod touch games we’ve learned about this week, but we’re willing to bet there are a few items here that might catch your fancy.
is a $6 game from Hyperdevbox Japan. That sounds expensive until you take a look at it—this is adapted from a 3D game for game consoles. You pilot one of three experimental robots trying to take back control of the earth from an alien entity called Diadora. The new 1.1 release features autosave and continue game functions, new difficulty settings, flip screen and tilt sensitivity options, and ranking groups for the high score.
Shooter - The Official Movie Game
Paramount Digital Entertainment’s Shooter is based on the movie, in which you must clear your name after being accused of an assassination attempt on the President. The game, which costs $1, sports more than 30 levels, a large arsenal of weapons to use, first person sniper perspective and more.
Tamagotchi: ‘Round the World
Namco Networks America has brought forth Tamagotchi: ‘Round the World, a game based on the virtual pet phenomenon that has swept Japan. You now keep your Tamagotchi well-fed, tickle and play with them as you interact with them and other creatures and objects in their own virtual world. It costs $6.
Chess Quest is a $5 game that combines 1,200 chess puzzles prepared by a grandmaster. It features six levels of increasing complexity and a solutions tee that contains meaningful variations for both black and white sides.
A new $3 arcade space-shooter from FlipSide5, Oort Storm takes you to outer space, to the Oort Cloud at the edge of our solar system where you must destroy alien artifacts that threaten the solar system. Nine levels, top ten rankings globally and locally, panning sound effects, powerups and more.
Studio Radiolaris has released Radio Flare 1.1, an update to their 2D shoot-em-up game for the iPhone. New to this release are two new stages, power-ups, new enemy types, more than 100 new enemy formations and better gameplay balance. It costs $3.
In WordMind, a $3 game, you must guess words and discover a five-letter secret word. It’s a bit like the peg game MasterMind, but with letters.
A variation on the classic computer game Snake, Snake XT is a free game (at least through the weekend) that lets you eat as many pellets as possible while avoiding obstacles. Your speed increases and difficulty ramps up.
Toejam Software’s $1 Pairs is a matching game for kids (and big kids) that lets you practice numbers, letters, shapes and colors. It features three levels of play, four tile sets, 40 different backgrounds that are revealed as you play, and a variable time peek setting.
Evangelion anime toys
Appliya has released Evangelion vol.2 Clock and Evangelion vol.3 Picture Stamp, apps priced at $3 and $2, respectively. They’re both based on the legendary anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion; Clock is a clock modeled after the interface of NERV headquarters time screens, while Picture Stamp lets you overlay vehicles, character elements and other content on your photos.
Puzzlicious is a $1 jigsaw puzzle app that creates puzzles from Web photos and pictures from your own iPhone photo library, as well. And the better you do, the more challenging the puzzles get.
Nicholas Solan has released Earth3D+, an updated version of its 3D Earth animation toy. The new version features enhanced graphics, more planets and more information. It costs $1.
A 4x4 puzzler, Segment costs $1. You race against the clock to win gold, silver and bronze medals. It comes with four pictures and you can also use images from your own camera roll.
The $1 Bullfrog Touch has you eating bugs from your lily pad as you hop around. The new 1.2 release features new multi-chop bonuses, new time bonus animations, new sound effects, improved performance and other enhancements.
In the $2 Letter bug you must spell words from layers of letters. You can use the touch screen to tap them out and spell words. You’ll get bonuses using for colored letters, too, and you can shuffle things up by shaking the device.
