G-Technology on Monday introduced its new G-SPEED eS PRO XL, a rack-mountable RAID storage system with support for Serial Attached SCSI (SAS). It’s expected to ship in May, 2009 started at $7000 for a 12 terabyte (TB) system.
The G-SPEED eS PRO XL was created for small film studios and video production companies. It’s available in a 2U 12-drive or 3U 16-drive configuration, with hot-swappable Serial ATA (SATA) 3Gb/s hard disk drives.
The system supports multi-stream uncompressed High Definition (HD) video and 2K workflows, and can provided sustained read/write speeds of more than 650 MB/sec. A Web-based control panel lets users manage, configure and monitor the system.
The storage device ships with a two-port mini-SAS RAID controller card and a locking, two-meter mini-SAS cable. The card fits in a PCI Express (PCIe) slot and is Mac and PC-compatible. It supports JBOD and RAID Level 0, 1, 3, 5 and 6. The card can support up to eight G-SPEED eS PRO XL units.
G-Technology’s Web site had not been updated with information about the G-SPEED eS PRO XL as Macworld posted this article.
