LSI has released a Mac OS X-compatible driver for its 3ware 9690SA and 9650SE series RAID controller cards for Intel-based Macs.

The cards are designed to add internal and external expandability for server-grade computers; users can add SATA or SAS hard drives. Both cards also are available with various port configurations, including low-profile SATA+SAS. Both come with software for configuration and management of the attached hard drives.

Also new is the 3ware firmware StreamFusion+, which optimizes reading from and writing to the hard drives in multi-stream environments.

LSI acquired the 3ware RAID adapter business of Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) in April.

Current users can download the drivers and StreamFusion + 9.5.2 firmware for free from the 3ware Web site.
