MakeMusic has announced the release of SmartMusic 2010, the newest major release of its music learning software for band, orchestra and choir. SmartMusic 2010 runs on Mac OS X and Windows. SmartMusic costs $30 per year for students, $130 per year for educators.

New features include a new Home Screen that makes it more easy to access music titles, assignments and other features; faster searching for repertoire with improved playlists with method books, exercises, and files created using MakeMusic’s composing software Finale; a gradebook that enables students to access assignment status, grades and teacher feedback, and which also provides teachers with improved visibility of the music their students have performed; improved assessment capabilities; and more than 300 new band and orchestra titles, and jazz ensemble titles from Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band.

Students and educators with current subscriptions can upgrade to the new version for free.

System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later, G4/867MHz or faster, 512MB RAM, and microphone adapter.
