Two scanning apps have been upgraded (finally) for use with Snow Leopard.

Creaceed’s Prizmo can now work with regular scanners as well as digital cameras. Originally released last April, Prizmo’s primary selling-point was its ability to scan documents using your camera; the software corrected imaging problems inherent in using a handheld camera instead of a flatbed scanner. Version 1.1 added Optical Character Recognition (OCR), so it could “read” scanned documents (in 10 different languages) and save the text (as a PDF, RTF, or plain text file).

Version 1.2 adds to those capabilities by accepting input from regular scanners (taking advantage of Snow Leopard’s enhanced scanner support), in addition to cameras and photo files.

Prizmo 1.2 is a free update for registered users. For new users, it costs $40; a trial version with not time limits is also available (though it adds a watermark to JPG, PNG and TIFF files).

Meanwhile, Fujitsu has released Snow Leopard Updates for four of the most popular models in its ScanSnap line: the S1500M, S300M ( ), S510M ( ), and S500M. Previously, while the ScanSnap scanners would work with Snow Leopard, some features (such as one-button scanning) weren’t fully supported; now they are.

Mariner bundles Paperless software, ScanSnap scanners

Mariner Software is now selling software-hardware bundles combining its own Paperless document-manager with two of those same Fujitsu ScanSnap scanners—the S300M and the S1500M.

Paperless (formerly known as ReceiptWallet) enables you to lets you scan or import receipts and other paperwork, save those scans as PDFs, and use OCR to interpret their text; it also has built-in search tools that help you organize scanned documents.

Fujitsu’s ScanSnap scanners are particularly popular among those who strive to achieve the truly “paperless” office, thanks to their speed, duplex scanning, and automatic paper detection.

The Paperless-plus-scanner bundle is available directly from Mariner. The bundle with the S300M sells for $295, while the S1500M bundle costs $495.
