On Thursday, Gendai Games (in conjunction with IDG and Macworld Expo), announced that Stunt Squirrels won the grand prize in the Macworld 2010 GameSalad Challenge.

Stunt Squirrels (iTunes link) is a physics puzzler that offers daring rodents navigating dangerous obstacles and challenging mazes in order to reach a goal. Developed by Fire Maple Games using GameSalad’s game-creating software, Stunt Squirrels was both the grand prize winner and the audience favorite.

“GameSalad is hands-down my favorite new software. I have been able to create two popular iPhone apps in less than four weeks. This would have been absolutely impossible without GameSalad,” said Joe Kaufmann of Fire Maple Games. “Being involved with the Macworld 2010 GameSalad Challenge has been a truly great experience, and I am honored that I was able to take home the grand prize.”

For those who walked the floor at Macworld Expo or tried the games out on, you know how competitive and impressive the entries were this year. GameSalad’s free tool allowed dozens of teams of amateur developers to create games for the iPhone, Web, or Mac platforms. All entries, including the award-winning games, are available to view and play at We also have a list of the finalists.
