The RhinoSkin iPod mini Aluminum Hardcase is a hardshell case very similar to the Matias iPod Armor mini -- an anodized aluminum shell, lined with neoprene foam, designed to protect your mini from the usual scratches and bumps but also from moderate impact and crushing. However, whereas the Matias model is constructed of both ABS plastic and aluminum, the RhinoSkin model is all aluminum. This should provide for a bit more protection for your mini, but, unfortunately, the RhinoSkin model leaves the mini's clickwheel exposed -- a nice convenience in some cases but surprising in an "impact protection" case like this.

Like the Armor mini, the RhinoSkin model provides access to both top controls and the dock connector on the bottom (although without the rubber protective cover -- the dock connector is always exposed) and an included belt clip. We like that the RhinoSkin belt clip is removable -- it uses a standard screw connection, so you can quickly attach or remove it. It also includes a plastic window for viewing the screen.

If you like the idea of the iPod Armor mini but wish you could more easily access your mini's face controls, check out the RhinoSkin case (which will save you $15). If you want all-over protection, the Armor mini is a slightly better choice.--Dan Frakes
