Vakaadoo's iVak N-type 2 is a liquid-polymer-coated hardshell case for your second-generation (2G) iPod nano. Available in a variety of striking colors, the svelte case adds little bulk to your nano, while protecting it from all the minor accidents that can befall your precious music player.

The iVak consists of two pieces, front and a back. Each piece snaps onto the nano itself for a secure, snug fit. Because of the "jigsaw puzzle" nature of the case, the only parts of the nano left exposed are the top and bottom edges and the Click Wheel, the latter of which you can cover with an included clear-adhesive film; the screen is protected by a clear, hard plastic window. The iVak is literally a snap to put on or take off and it leaves all the major ports and controls easily accessible. The case also comes with a key-ring attachment, a lanyard, and a soft rubber cable wrap.

Despite its sleek good looks, the iVak is more than just a pretty face. The packaging claims a "scratch resistant exterior" and in my limited tests this proved to be accurate. I used both a key and a screwdriver to try and gouge the case; they yielded only minute scratches that were really only visible at a particular angle. The lanyard and key-ring attachments are both solidly constructed, as well; to attach them, you thread the key-ring through a slot on the back of the iVak and then optionally clip the lanyard to it. The included cable wrap is a neat idea: sculpted from soft rubber, you wind your headphone cable around it to take up the extra slack and then slip the cord through the notches.

I have little bad to say about the iVak: its Click Wheel protection could stand to be somewhat more robust, and the open bottom leaves the headphone jack and dock-connector port open to dust and dirt. You'll also need to take the nano out of the case should you wish to dock it, though Apple's dock-connector cable will work while the nano's in the case.

Overall, the iVak N-type 2 is an excellent choice for those looking for a case that will keep their nano safe and sound without adding too much bulk.
