If the number of armband cases available is any indication, people just love running with their iPod nanos. It's little surprise, given the nano's light weight, flash memory, and integration with the Nike+iPod Sport Kit. Fruitshop's Nano2 Muscle for the second-generation (2G) iPod nano is merely one such entry, but it's a pretty good one.

The Nano2 Muscle is basically a silicone skin that comes with a Velcro armband. The skin is pretty typical: openings for screen and hold switch, an open bottom to access the dock-connector port and headphone jack, and a marked overlay for using the Click Wheel through the skin. The Nano2 Muscles eschews robust screen protection in favor of an included thin, adhesive film. On the back of the case are two slits through which you thread the armband.

The armband is a bit on the flimsy side. Unlike some of its competitors, it's not padded and it isn't elastic. I actually like the fact that it's not elastic, since I find it easier to fit on my arm without feeling like I'm about to cut off my circulation, but some may find the band's material uncomfortable after prolonged periods. The case itself is pretty robust and textured grips on the sides make it easy to hold onto when you're not using it with the armband. I appreciate that the bottom of the case is open to accommodate the Nike+iPod Sport Kit transmitter.

I do wish Fruitshop would beef up the screen protection, since the thin adhesive film doesn't prevent more than incidental damage. Overall, the Nano2 Muscle may not change your life, but it may make exercising easier.
