In addition to WaterField Design's iPhone Smart Cases, the company also recently released its $9 iPhone Suede Jacket. Perhaps the simplest iPhone case we've yet seen, it will nevertheless be appealing to some people.

The Jacket is merely a slip-in pouch made of the same black, machine-washable "Ultrasuede" used to line WaterField's Slip, Flap, and Clip cases. It's quite soft, so it won't scratch your iPhone; in fact, you can use the pouch itself as a polishing cloth for the iPhone's screen. When in the pouch--your iPhone slides easily in and out--the phone is protected against scratches and (very) mild bumps, but the Jacket is so thin and fits so snug that it adds hardly any bulk. In other words, the Jacket is ideal for when you want to stick your iPhone in a bag or pocket and not worry about scratches from keys or coins.

There's really not much more to say here. If you're worried about scratches but you don't want the bulk of a "real" case, the Suede Jacket is a nice option that's much less expensive than most iPhone cases; and considering that I've seen basic polishing cloths made of similar material for $5 or more, $9 for a pouch that fits your iPhone like a glove seems reasonable. (Unfortunately, the company's least expensive shipping option at the time of this writing is $7.)--Dan Frakes
