Happymagenta has updated its augmented reality compass for iPhone, Spyglass, to version 3.0. New in this version is iOS 4 optimization, iPhone 4 gyroscope support, new sounds, and other improvements.

Spyglass is a multi-function augmented-reality tool and heads-up display that places a live military-style compass, GPS coordinates, and other information about your location over a live feed from your iPhone’s built-in camera.

Version 3.0 of Spyglass is optimized for iOS 4, with high-res HD icons and graphics optimized for iPhone 4’s Retina Display. When running on an iPhone 4, Spyglass automatically harnesses the phone’s built-in gyroscope to aid with digital compass accuracy and provide better motion dampening.

Spyglass’s navigation feature has also received enhancements. The target pointers that aim you toward your destination have been enlarged, the distance from your current destination is constantly displayed, and you can now receive audible feedback—the app beeps like a parking radar as you move closer to the target.

Spyglass 3.0 costs $2 and works on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPad 3G running iOS 3.1 or later.
