A quote for every occasion! Whether it be the continuing inanity of Lodsys’s legal filings, the bizarrity of HP’s decision-making, or one software company’s attempt to reach out and help people. Would that which we call the remainders for Tuesday, August 30, 2011 by any other name smell as sweet?

Lodsys - Lodsys in a Panic to Keep Apple Out of Suit (Groklaw)

Lodsys is looking a little…peaked. The company’s latest reply to Apple’s reply to Lodsys’s response to Apple’s motion to intervene in the case—and if you followed that, you deserve a cookie—comes across, according to Groklaw, as “legal gibberish.” Sounds like Lodsys would have been better off channeling the late Dr. Seuss: “Not in a fort, not in a court!”

More TouchPads on the Way (HP Communities)

What do you do when your discontinued product suddenly starts chalking up sales, thanks to a deep discount? Naturally, you make more. HP says it will be making a final run of TouchPads to “meet unfulfilled demand.” To paraphrase Arthur C. Clarke, “Any sufficiently advanced genius is indistinguishable from idiocy.”

IGG pledges $30,000 to Vermont flood relief (IGG Software)

The fine folks at IGG Software, makers of iBank and iBiz, have donated all of the proceeds from Monday’s sales to help provide relief to Vermont residents struck by flooding in the wake of tropical storm Irene. Of course, it would be a financial software company that would embody the words of Henry David Thoreau: “Goodness is the only investment that never fails.”
