Avenza Systems on Thursday updated Geographic Imager, adding new tools and automated scripting to the Adobe Photoshop plugin.
Geographic Imager adds geospatial functionality to Photoshop–meaning that users of the plugin can import and edit geospatial images such as aerial and satellite imagery into their Photoshop files. The plugin also lets users import GeoTIFFS and other referenced raster formats, automatically mosaic and tile images spatially, and geo-reference images based on ground control points, among other capabilities.
The newly released Geographic Imager 2.0 adds a new GeoCrop tool that allows image cropping based on geographic coordinates. The software also adds automated scripting that lets users run Geographic Imager tasks in conjunction with Photoshop’s automation tools.
Other features in the 2.0 update include improved control over spatial transformations, improved conversion to GeoTIFF functionality, and support for Photoshop functions such as Trim, Flip, and non-angular Crop that weren’t supported in previous versions of Geographic Imager.
Geographic Imager costs US$699 for a single-user commercial license. Users with a maintenance subscription can upgrade to Geographic Imager 2.0 for free; otherwise, the upgrade costs $319.
The software runs on G5- or Intel-based Macs with Mac OS X 10.4 or later. Version 2.0 works with either Photoshop CS2 or CS3.
