Photo sharing service Smilebox on Tuesday announced Smilebox for Mac, a new way for Mac OS X users to share video and photos with other users on the Internet. The software is free to download and the basic service is free, though the Smilebox costs US$4.99 per month for extended “Club Smilebox” functionality.
Smilebox is used to create digital scrapbook designs containing your own photos, videos, words and music. Once you’re done creating your content, you can e-mail it to your friends and family, embed it in a blog or print the content.
Smilebox integrates with iPhoto, iTunes and Photo Booth, according to the developer, so you can easily import and drag and drop media. It manages media compression to reduce upload/download times.
Smilebox for Mac has been available only for Mac recipient viewing — this marks the first time the service has been available for Mac users who want to author their own digital content.
System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4 or later and Adobe Flash Player.
