Internet Gateway is a software router used to connect networks to the Internet. It’s designed to offer shared, secure Internet functionality for networked Macs. Internet Gateway is designed for modularity and expandability for a range of applications. A suite of applications designed to provide homes, small offices, businesses and schools with the ability to safely share Internet connections, it lets users connect all their networked computers to the Internet through one secure account.
The Mac OS X version incorporates all of the features of the “traditional” Internet Gateway, while taking full advantage of the high performance and improved user interface available to native applications under Apple’s new operating system, according to Vicomsoft General Manager Alan Hart. It includes a firewall; Internet access controls by user or group; Web caching to improve Internet performance and reduce bandwidth usage; automatic connection to the Internet as needed; teaming of multiple Internet connections; dial-in access for a network; built in DNS and DHCP servers for simplified network management; and remote management.
Secure Internet Gateway is the first fully integrated suite of network management tools with Internet Content filtering capabilities to be made available on the Mac OS X platform, Hart said. Prices start from US$149 for up to 10 users. For more info, go to the product Web site.
