Olympus America Inc., Consumer Products Group has announced that several of its digital voice recorders will work on the Mac when used in conjunction with Olympus’ own free software, DSS Player for the Mac. Models supported by DSS Players for the Mac include the DS-2000, DS-3000, DS-320 and DS-150.
The DSS Players software enables users to automate many manual functions like auto-detection and USB auto-download of dictation from the recorder. Olympus Digital Speech Standard (DSS) format can also be converted to AIFF format, DSS files can be dragged and dropped as e-mail attachments. Direct recording onto the Mac can also be handled with the digital recorder. And if you’re transcribing content, an optional USB-based RS-23 footswitch can be used to manually control the transcription.
Olympus America product manager Keith Swiderski said his company is excited about the product’s release.
“Mac users are an important segment of voice recorder users, and are a very important customer base for Olympus due to our strength in digital cameras. Mac customers have been waiting a long time for this functionality and we are proud to be the first manufacturer to make digital recorders Mac-compatible,” said Swiderski.
