At last, you can back up your Mac OS X-equipped hard drive the way you’ve been waiting for. Dantz Development Corp. has announced the availability of Retrospect Backup 5.0 – Mac OS X Preview. The new software enables users of Mac OS X to take a gander at how the next major version of Dantz’s popular backup software will work on Mac OS X.
Dantz vice president of marketing tony Barbagallo called the preview release an important milestone for his company. “We know our Mac users have been looking forward to Retrospect Backup for Mac OS X, and we are excited to offer our customers a preview of what we’ve been working so hard on for the past two years–Mac OS X backup software with the same functionality and reliability for which Retrospect products are so highly regarded.”
Retrospect 5.0 uses Mac OS X’s Aqua interface and adds the new ability to back up files larger than 2GB. The new version can also do live restores of Mac OS X systems.
Dantz indicated that Retrospect 5.0 – Mac OS X Preview requires Mac OS X 10.1.2. The preview version sports client licenses for backing up 100 networked Mac and Windows machines.
The new, final version of Retrospect 5.0 is expected by the end of the first calendar quarter of 2002. It will support both Mac OS X and 9. Versions with localized language support for French, German and Japanese will follow.
Dantz is exhibiting in the Moscone Center’s South Hall at booth 907, and the company has a limited number of preview CDs on hand. Alternately, you can download the software from Dantz’s Web site.
