Mac upgrade manufacturer Sonnet Technologies today announced an ATA133 RAID PCI card. Called the Tempo RAID133, this card will begin shipping late this month for US$200.
Sonnet also announced a rebate of up to $35 when you purchase any speed of one of their G3 or G4 processor upgrades between January 1 and March 31 of this year and a Piccolo USB Flash Drive, a Tempo ATA100PCI Host Adapter and a Tango USB/FireWire combo card. For each of the aforementioned products, you will receive a $10 rebate, maxing out at $35 if you buy all three. For details, visit the web site.
The Tempo RAID133 works in any G3 or G4 tower system. The Tempo RAID133 has two Master/slave channels, and each supports hardware RAID level 0 between one Master/Slave pair of drives connected to the ATA chain. The card comes with two 40-pin 80-wire ATA cables to connect drives and supports transfer speeds of up to 133MB per second from one array. The RAID is maintained in hardware, so an array maintained by the Tempo can be a boot device. The Tempo RAID133 works in Macs running Mac OS 8.5 or later, and it is also compatible with Mac OS X.
