Dr. Guy (Bud) Tribble has returned to Apple, the company announced today. Reporting to Avie Tevanian, Tribble will return as vice president of Software Technology, responsible for helping to define the software engineering group’s technical direction.
“Bud is one of the industry’s top experts in software design and object-oriented programming,” said Avie Tevanian, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “We’re thrilled he’s returned to Apple to bring his unique expertise to our ongoing commitment to make Mac OS X, already the world’s most advanced operating system, even better.”
Tribble has had a long history in the industry including working for Apple as manager of the original Macintosh Software team where he helped to design the Mac OS and user interface.
In addition, Tribble was chief technology officer for the Sun-Netscape Alliance, responsible for guiding Internet and e-commerce software R&D. He also helped found NeXT Computer, where he was vice president of Software Engineering and a key architect of the NextStep operating system.
Most recently Tribble was vice president of Engineering at Eazel .Inc where he lead the development of next generation user interface software and Internet services for Linux computers.
