So it’s not a Mac software product, but so many of us use Palm OS-based PDAs — especially now that Palm Desktop 4.0 is available in beta form for Mac OS X — that we’d be remiss not to mention the latest release from PDA software publisher Handmark Inc. The company today announced a bundle of 10 different Palm OS-compatible applications called Handmark MobileTools, and it’s available for US$49.99.
Handmark Inc. marketing vice president Douglas Edwards pointed out that MobileTools isn’t a shovelware collection of unlicensed Palm apps — the software is all fully licensed.
The titles in Handmark MobileTools include various utilities from Blue Nomad development, including Backup Buddy and Backup Buddy VFS, AutoSync (an automatic synchronization utility) and TimeSync (which synchronizes your PDA to your Mac’s clock). Please note that Backup Buddy and Backup Buddy VFS are Windows-compatible only, though all other products in this bundle work with the Mac.
Bachmann Software’s FilePoint 2.1 is also included; it’s a file management utility that utilizes a desktop file system metaphor. FilePoint 2.1 supports Handspring’s MemPlug expansion modules, MMC, SD and MemoryStick products. Bachmann’s PrintBoy is also included; this utility enables you to print PDA content to infrared-equipped printers.
Handmark’s own software is also bundled, including Handmark SuperUtility, a hardware testing and management utility; SuperClock, which turns your PDA into a customizable travel clock with alarm; CheckList, a To Do list replacement; and MobileSafe, an account manager that stores and encrypts data like user ids, passwords, Internet log-ins and more.
Separate downloads for Windows and Mac systems are available from Handmark’s Web site. Handmark noted that this package saves users $100 over the regular retail prices of each application purchased separately.
