MacPrefect 5 network security tool gains new features

Hi Resolution Systems has announced the release of MacPrefect 5.0, a desktop security software package for the Macintosh intended for networks used in educational and corporate environments. The software doesn’t yet support Mac OS X, but Hi Resolution has added a number of new features to the product.

Completely new user interface.

New Menu Control tool, which can prevent access to individual menu items within any application.

Auto-update, which connects to the company’s FTP server to obtain and select updates automatically.

Compatibility with System 7.5 to Mac OS 9.2.x.

Improved Copy Control interface, which can now be configured on a File Type and File Creator basis.

Improved support for multiple partition hard disks, in particular within the FolderSweep and Folder Control tools.

Improved Launch Control interface, which allows separate access lists for each type of drive.

Improved support for third party printer drivers.

And through March 31, Hi Resolution Systems is offering MacPrefect license holders a special deal on MacAdministrator 2.5. For the same cost as the MacPrefect 5.0 upgrade, you can exchange your license for MacAdministrator 2.5 instead. MacAdministrator offers extensive administrator control for networks regardless of server type. Login, authentication and volume mounting for Apple, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000 Server, Novell, Unix, or any AFP or AFP/IP complaint server is supported.
