has announced the release of Discribe 5.0, the latest major release of its CD/DVD mastering software. The new version features native support for Mac OS X, adds features, has a lower price, and sports a free demo.
Discribe provides mastering capabilities for more than 250 supported mechanisms, according to CharisMac, including CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW systems. Additionally, the software supports formats including CD Extra, Hybrid, ISO-9660, and track-at-once and disc-at-once audio. ATAPI, SCSI, FireWire and USB interfaces are all supported as well.
Discribe 5.0 gains support for the Video CD format, and works seamlessly with Apple’s own Disc Burner and iTunes software, according to the developer. The new version also features the ability to master MP3 digital music files, too.
A fully functional demo is available for download from the CharisMac Web site. The demo is limited to 5 burns.
System requirements are very modest. A Power Macintosh 6100 or better is required; 8MB RAM; System 8.6 or higher; and a hard drive that can sustain the required data transfer rate of a CD-R system.
Previously available for US$99.95, Discribe is now available for $69.95 instead. Users of previous versions are eligible for a $29.96 upgrade, and users who purchased Discribe 4.5 within the 60 day period prior to Discribe 5.0’s release are entitled to a free upgrade. A $29.96 competitive upgrade is also available.
