Do you have an analog monitor you’d like to attach to a digital video card? Or do you have a digital monitor that you’d like to attach to an analog video card? Gefen has announced a new pair of its “ex-tend-it” conversion box products that will enable you to do exactly that, through some clever analog to digital conversion.
The company today announced the VGA to DVI Conversion Box and the DVI to VGA Conversion Box. The first device enables users to attach a Digital Visual Interface (DVI)-equipped display to a Mac or PC which uses VGA output only. Conversely, the DVI to VGA Conversion Box enables a Mac or PC equipped with DVI — common on the Mac especially with older Power Mac systems and third-party graphics cards — to attach to monitors which only support VGA.
Gefen noted that some video cards provide the ability to simultaneously output different video signals via VGA and DVI on cards that are equipped with both interfaces; the DVI to VGA Conversion Box would enable you to drive two analog monitors side by side in such a configuration, if you wished.
Both conversion boxes are priced at US$399. You can order through Gefen’s online Web presence, and international customers are invited to drop Gefen a line to find out the names and locations of the company’s international dealers.
