There’s a new version of YOW* (yowstar), the interactive, QuickTime-based audio and video mixing software from the company of the same name. It not only mixes and matches digital audio files, but sports real-time video mixing capabilities.
YOW* provides four modules of media for mixing. Any module can host movie clips, audio clips, photographs, Flash and GIFT animations, camera inputs, streaming video, or even a “Graffiti” text manipulation tool.
“Each module is equipped with an impressive bank of video effects for transforming images and a video buffer for capturing and looping video input,” Peter Nyboer of YOW told MacCentral. “Complete playback control of files allows for looping, pitch shifting and automated file selection. Crossfaders give the Mixmaster control over what is seen and/or heard.”
YOW* is completely MIDI enabled to allow control with MIDI faders, keyboards and sensors. With its “FlexiFace” feature, an onscreen slider and button array, YOW* lets you customize and centralize control over playback and video effects. Many commands are mapped to the Mac keyboard to provide instant, interactive control over your mixes, Nyboer said.
A functionality-limited free demo is available for download. The commercial version is available at the same site for US$150 and an interactive manual is also available online. Currently the software is available for OS 9, not OS X.
