Mac game conversion experts Westlake Interactive recently noted the release of a new version of Unreal Tournament aimed at Mac OS X users. Named Unreal Tournament X Preview 2, the new build is being offered as “an early pre-release intended only for the brave.” The build will work either with the original Unreal Tournament or the more recently released Unreal Tournament Game of the Year Edition.
Unreal Tournament is the wildly popular first person shooter published for the Macintosh by MacSoft. The game offers both online and offline challenges for 3D action junkies, though as the name implies it excels at online play.
Unreal Tournament was first released well prior to Mac OS X’s release, and Westlake has been able to tool various Mac OS X builds in between working on other projects. Westlake has been doing work on other games which will be released for Mac OS X, and some of these games use the same core engine technology. Westlake president Glenda Adams has said previously that some of those efforts have been applied to Westlake’s continued work on Unreal Tournament X.
“This new preview version of Unreal Tournament for OS X fixes a major bug that caused a problem for many users (a crash at the end of the loading process),” said Westlake.
In order for you to use the preview version, you’ll need to have installed Unreal Tournament version 436, Unreal Tournament Game of the Year Edition or a previous Unreal Tournament X Preview.
Westlake highly recommends using Mac OS X 10.1, and asks that users who download the new build read the Read Me file carefully.
