It’s a busy time right now for Mac game publisher MacPlay. Yesterday we reported that the company’s Mac conversion of realMYST has reached beta status, and today we have news that its conversion of Icewind Dale is also in beta, and expected to ship to retail in early March.
MacPlay president Mark Cottam said that his company’s pending publication of Icewind Dale will put another award-winning role playing game into the hands of Mac gamers. “Gameplay of Icewind Dale under OS X is incredible and a real treat for anyone familiar with the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons adventure series,” said Cottam.
Icewind Dale is a role playing adventure game that puts players in a classic dungeon crawl in the Forgotten Realms, the same campaign setting depicted in Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn. The game was developed using BioWare’s Infinity Engine. In Icewind Dale, players create a party of adventurers as they search for an evil deep within the frozen Spine of the World.
As with other games based on the same technology, Icewind Dale follows a rule set derived from Wizards of the Coast’s Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, so Icewind Dale offers an authentic role playing game experience.
MacPlay is currently accepting pre-orders for the game for US$49.99. Customers in the US who pre-order will get free shipping and handling. Additionally, if you’ve bought Baldur’s Gate II or any other MacPlay title directly through MacPlay’s online store, you’ll be eligible to get an additional $10 discount as part of MacPlay’s Customer Loyalty Program.
“The release of Icewind Dale builds on our already strong line-up of titles by bringing another award-winning roleplaying title to the Macintosh community,” said Mark Cottam, President of MacPlay. “Gameplay of Icewind Dale under OS X is incredible and a real treat for anyone familiar with the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons adventure series.”
