Intersil Corp., developer of silicon technology for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), says its PRISM WLAN technology has been incorporated into a new Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b) wireless print server and PC card from
TROY Wireless, which specializes in short-range wireless connectivity.
So why should you care? TROY’s line of PRISM-enabled Wi-Fi products includes the EtherSync PC card that provides 802.11b connectivity to notebook computers and the EtherWind wireless 802.11b print server that allows WLAN users to remotely print documents without a wired connection. The EtherWind print server features a Java-based setup utility that works on the Mac, as well as Windows and Linux systems.
PRISM is an integrated WLAN chip set that delivers wireless Ethernet networking with compliance to the IEEE’s 802.11b global standard. It’s optimized for high data rate (11 Mbps) performance, according to Larry Ciaccia, VP and general manager of Intersil’s Wireless Networking Business.
