Streambox Inc. today announced the release of its Streambox ACT-L2 Codec for QuickTime. The codec delivers full-screen, full-motion video of VHS/DVD quality at 200 – 1200 Kbps, according to the developer, which it claimed will translate into a 30 percent cost saving for content owners and network operators when delivering high-quality video using QuickTime.
“Streambox ACT-L2 Codec is a result of our R&D efforts over the last 24 months and we are looking forward to releasing the ACT-L2 Live Encoder and the ACT-L2 Professional Encoder for off-line encoding in the near future,” said Streambox CEO Bob Hildeman.
Streambox ACT-L2 (the acronym stands for Advanced Compression Technology – Level 2) has been ported to various architectures, including x86, PowerPC, TI C6000, and Equator MAP-CA. The technology is available immediately for download through QuickTime’s own built-in updating functions. The company said the ACT-L2 Encoder for QuickTime is coming at the end of February.
