Smith Micro Software has released a new version of
FAXstf X, its fax send and receive software for Mac OS X. The new update, 10.0.3, is available for download from Smith Micro’s Web site.
Changes in version 10.0.3 include the following:
The ability not to send a cover page has been added to the Cover Page panel of the FAXstf X printer driver. FAXstf X now supports port arbitration (must have Mac OS X 10.1.3 installed). A change was made to reduce the amount of the CPU time that FAXstf X uses during a fax transmission. The Quick Start Card now exists in all supported languages. A change was made so that FAXstf X now reports error descriptions and error codes correctly when an error occurs while sending or receiving a fax. A change was made to improve fax transmission reliability when sending faxes from a Rev A iMac. A change was made to correct transmission failures when faxing large complex images. A change was made to ensure that FAXstf X can always talk to the modem. This eliminates the constant status of “Communicating” in the Modem Center rather than “Idle.” The About box of the Fax Browser and Modem Center applications now displays the correct major revision number (10.0). A change was made to prevent a crash that would occur when addressing a fax using a vCard that contains a special character in the name, such as a tilde (~). A change was made so that the computer will now immediately go to sleep if sleep is forced during a fax transmission via the Apple menu or the power key. FAXstf X will no longer utilize large amounts of processor time when not sending or receiving a fax. A change was to the Fax Browser so that the Logs button will now work consistently when running in Japanese. Changes were made to the FAXstf X User’s Guide to reflect the migration to an Apple package install. Folder views should no longer be altered after running the FAXstf X installer package. Dialing prefix numbers are no longer visible on the fax cover page. Changes have been made at the driver level to reduce fax transmission failures. FAXstf X now fully supports two-byte language characters. A change was made to the Modem Center application to correct a problem that could prevent the Modem Center application from launching automatically when sending a fax. A change was made to the Modem Center so that the Apple Internal Modem added in the Print Center is displayed dynamically. A change was made to resolve an initialization problem that could occur on dual-processor 800Mhz machines. The package installer will now install correctly on UFS-formatted hard drives. A problem was fixed in the Fax Browser that prevented the column headings from extending all the way across the window when the Fax Browser window is maximized. The 14.9MB update can be applied to FAXstf X only. To download the new version, please visit the Smith Micro Software Web site.
