FrontBase Inc. has announced the release of a new version of their database software, FrontBase Relational Database Server 3.5. FrontBase bills its software as “the only database available for Mac OS X that can scale seamlessly from a personal machine to true enterprise levels,” and said that the software supports features like clustering, replication, hot backup and more.
The new version 3.5 sports the ability to work with symbolic time zones. It’s now able to handle situations where client applications are located in different time zones than the server.
Additionally, two new functions are supported — ABS and SIGN. The sql92 command line tool now includes commands for maintaining a replication master and its clients, as well — START REPLICATOR, CREATE CLIENT, ADD CLIENT, REMOVE CLIENT, SHOW CLIENTS and STOP REPLICATOR are now supported.
The developer noted that FrontBase 3.5 ships today for Mac OS X, Solaris and RedHat Linux, with support to follow for Windows 2000/NT, Unix/FreeBSD, and Linux (YellowDog, Debian, and Mandrake).
