The new flat panel iMac is such an eye-catcher that you can expect to it flourishing at various trade shows. For folks transporting the revamped consumer portable to such events, the folks at Willow Design have released a carry case that’s dubbed the Flat Panel Wedge to protect the iMac, keyboard, speakers and accessories while they’re in transit.
Everything, including the iMac is separately compartmentalized and protected, with the case, which weighs eight pounds. It has rigid protective external walls and dividers throughout to separate and protect the flat panel and other components. There are specific compartments for the iMac, speakers, keyboard, two separate accessory compartments and room for lots of cables underneath the back of the iMac.
Like the iMac itself, Willow expects the Flat Panel Wedge to be a hot seller.
“We received our first e-mail request for a new flat panel case within 45 minutes of Apple CEO Steve Jobs announcing the new computer at Macworld,” Willow President, Nigel Peck said.
With the case, you can load and unload an entire iMac system in “well under a minute,” he said. Still, it’s too large for carry-on airline status. As with all other Willow products, the Wedge will be covered by Willow’s lifetime guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship, Peck said.
Soft foam pads go with all the cases to isolate the speakers from each other. And if you use the Velcro cinch over the pedestal (above where the keyboard slips), it guarantees the iMac is locked into place. The Flat Panel Wedge is available now for US$207.
