Shareware developer Alessandro Levi Montalcini has released the fourth Mac OS X public beta of his USB Overdrive mouse and joystick driver for Mac OS X. It only supports mouse and trackball devices at this time.
USB Overdrive is a universal USB driver that handles USB devices and lets you configure them either globally or on an application-specific basis. Beta 4 adds autoscroll support, accelerated Scrolling support, a “Use Global Settings” option, and a shortcut to the USB Overdrive in the System Preferences. There are also bug fixes.
The final version of the USB Overdrive X will soon be distributed as shareware, Montalcini said. Users of the Mac OS 9 version who registered after the release of Mac OS X are entitled to a free upgrade.
All new registrations (US$20 per user) cover both the Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X versions. Users who registered before the release of Mac OS X can get a special price for the upgrade to the new Mac OS X version.
