Apple will be a sponsor of this year’s Academy Awards presentations, according to Mediaweek, the “online magazine of the media.”
Apple is one of the new advertisers for the sold-out telecast, which will be hosted by Whoopi Goldberg on ABC on Sunday, March 24. Other new advertisers are Cingular, ING, JCPenney, Mars, Mastercard, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Salton, UPS and Verizon.
Mediaweek says the ads cost, on average, US$1.3 million per 30-second spot. Other big name companies running commercials during the Oscar shindig are American Express, Anheuser-Busch, General Motors, Kodak, McDonald’s, Pepsi and ONDCP. No word on which products Apple will be advertising.
