Mac-dedicated Internet Service Provider Mac-1 Internet has launched three Mac broadband-satellite packages, according to Macworld UK .
“Soho” is the least expensive of the services at £159 (all prices exclude VAT) per month and guarantees a download speed of 512Kbps and a maximum of 4Mbps, with an upload of 128Kbps. “Soho Plus,” at £199 per month, guarantees a minimum of 640Kbps up to a maximum of 4Mbps and an upload speed of 128Kbps. The £249 Enterprise package guarantees a minimum speed of 768Kbps, a maximum of 4Mbps, and 128Kbps upload speed. All three packages require a PC gateway, supplied and pre-configured for an additional £35 per month.
“The advantage of satellite broadband is that it’s available to all UK households and businesses regardless of geographical location or proximity to telephone exchanges,” Joe Anderson, managing director of Isonetric (the distribution company in the UK) said. “ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) is unavailable to much of the country because BT has postponed converting telephone exchanges to ADSL. Mac-1 Internet will provide a stable, fast Internet connection.”
No word on whether Mac-1 has any plans of expanding the service beyond the UK.
