Yellow Dog Linux maker Terra Soft Solutions, Inc. today announced that it’s shipping a dual 1 GHz G4 cluster node/server/workstation in a GVS 9000 2U Rack System. It’s a conversion of a Power Mac G4 system designed to fit into a standard equipment rack, occupying only 2U of vertical space. It ships with both Yellow Dog Linux 2.2 and Mac OS X pre-installed.
In addition to the 1GHz dual PowerPC G4s, the system features 1GB of PC-133 SDRAM, an 80GB IDE hard drive, Apple’s DVD-RW “SuperDrive,” Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire and USB ports, and an ATI Radeon 7500 dual monitor video card. The system also sports a single PCI expansion slot. It ships with an Apple USB keyboard and mouse.
“Place an Apple dual G4 into a GVS 9000, ship with the best PPC operating systems available, and you’ve got something powerful,” said Terra Soft CEO Kai Staats.
The new rack system ships for US$3,839 plus shipping and handling.
