CharisMac Engineering Inc. has announced support for 40x CD recorders in a new update to Discribe, their CD and DVD mastering software for the Mac. The new release, 5.0.11, adds support for 40x CD-R mechanisms and new DVD recorders, too. The software works in both Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.
In a recent statement, the company explained that support for 40x drives requires more than just a simple driver update — work beyond what’s normally required for CD mastering software to add support for new drive mechanisms. Discribe now supports more than 250 CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW mechanisms; it also supports the creation of CD Extra, Hybrid and ISO-9660 formats, as well as track-at-once and disc-at-one audio. The software also supports mechanisms working via ATAPI, SCSI, FireWire and USB interfaces.
Discribe also includes AudioScribe — a software application that enables users to record vinyl, voice or tape to hard disk in AIFF format; Discribe can then be used to master the audio to CD.
A demo version of Discribe is available for download; competitive upgrades are also available. The 5.0.11 update is free to any registered 5.0 users. More info is available from the CharisMac Web site.
