Boston FCP user group finds new home for March meeting

The Boston Final Cut Pro User Group (BOSFCPUG), an officially recognized Apple user group, is kicking off its second meeting in a new gathering-spot. Attendance and membership was so overwhelming at the user group’s first meeting last month that they’ve already had to find a new space.

The March meeting of BOSFCPUG happens on Thursday, March 21st, from 7 to 10 pm. It happens at the Wong Auditorium at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This 300 seat auditorium provides a lot more breathing space than the Apple Market Center in Boston, where the user group’s first meeting was held last month.

The March meeting will feature a lineup of Final Cut Pro experts, including:

Tim Wilson of Boris FX;

Charles Roberts, author of Final Cut Pro 2 for FireWire DV Editing;

Loren Miller, creator of FCP KeyGuide;

IDV Media audio visual composer and director Chris Florio;

Indie filmmaker Ravi Jain, whose 7-part Web-friendly sitcom Three Abreast was edited using Final Cut Pro;

Additionally, Canon USA reps will be on-hand to demo the Canon XL1S DV Control feature with Focus Enhancements’ FireStore and LaCie external pocket FireWire drives.

If that’s not enough to get you to come, the BOSFCPUG meeting will also feature the Big Dig Raffle — a collection of software, hardware, books and training donated by various sponsors and vendors. A complete list of goodies is available from the BOSFCPUG Web site.

Also, BOSFCPUG has teamed up with CreativeCow.net to host a new discussion forum where folks can chat about upcoming Final Cut Pro user group events, and get answers to Final Cut Pro and DV-related questions.

BOSFCPUG is also teaming up with their counterparts in Los Angeles (LAFCPUG) at NAB, the National Association of Broadcasters conference coming to Las Vegas next month. They’re coordinating what they anticipate to be the largest gathering of Final Cut Pro users during NAB. That event happens on Wednesday, April 10 at 7 pm, in the Royal Salon of the Las Vegas Hilton.
