Sonnet Technologies, the folks who make Macintosh processor upgrade cards, has a new HARMONi G3 600MHz processor upgrade/FireWire combo card. this is the second member of the HARMONi family of CRT iMac upgrades.
HARMONi was introduced at Macworld New York last July. The new 600MHz version will increase the performance of the early Revision A-D iMacs up to 250 percent of the original speed, according to Robert Farnsworth, Sonnet president and CEO. The company uses a 600MHz IBM PowerPC G3 processor, with 256K 1:1 Level 2 cache that’s fully integrated on the processor chip itself, he added. HARMONi G3 600MHz is ready for Mac OS X, something very important in considering Mac purchases and upgrades these days. It also works with Mac OS 8.1 and higher.
HARMONi also incorporates a FireWire port, which gives the first-generation iMacs the plug-and-play connection to high-performance peripheral devices such as the iPod, digital cameras, DV camcorders, and CD-RW and DVD-R drives.
iMac models compatible with HARMONi are: iMac 233MHz, 266MHz, 333MHz (Rev A-D). The combo card operates with the iMac’s existing hardware, software, RAM and peripherals. Up to 512MB of RAM can be installed on HARMONi. The HARMONi G3 600/FireWire combo card will be available early in the second quarter of the year at an estimated price of US$399.95.
