The new printer weighs 27 pounds and is powered by an IDT RISC processor. It can print on plain paper, transparencies, laser-quality labels and any other laser approved media, according to Xante. It features both a 10/100baseT Ethernet interface for network printing and an IEEE 1284 bi-directional parallel port for direct connections to PCs and PC print servers.
The printer comes equipped with one multipurpose tray that can hold up to 100 sheets and a universal tray that can hold up to 250. A third paper tray — a 250 sheet paper feeder — will also be available as an option. The AW1200 can output up to 12 pages per minute. It comes with a print cartridge good for about 5,000 copies.
Expected to carry a street price of about US$995, the Xante AW1200 will be available in early April.
Although Xante wasn’t precise about driver support, the company will offer EtherTalk support for the AW1200, according to information downloadable from the Web site. Specific details about OS X support was not available, but the company does support OS X on a number of its printers.
