CirculationPro now platform independent

CirculationPro 3.0 from Baseview — a company that provides software tools for publishing — has been rewritten from the ground up and is will be platform independent when it ships this summer. The application is a circulation management solution.

The update, offers many server options, including Mac OS X, Windows, and Solaris. That server can then be accessed by virtually any computer, using just about any recent Web browser, according to Scott Bray, Baseview’s circulation product manager.

“You can have workstations side by side using different operating systems,” he added.

CirculationPro also allows circulation departments to host multiple publications from a single location. The new version also adds features that should appeal to magazine publishers, such as the ability for one subscriber to have different delivery addresses for different publications. And it lets users have a centralized call center for multiple publications.

A built-in contextual help system “knows” where you are in the application and gives you tips for that specific screen. Bray said that other features and improvements included in or new to CirculationPro 3.0 are:

Expanded searching capabilities: For instance, a name search could contain criteria such as “last name contains “Smi” and first name starts with “S.” A phone number search could be as basic as “phone number contains ‘5800.’ “

E-mail renewal notices.

An expanded History screen: You can now track name changes, address changes, and other changes to subscriber information, as well as who made those changes and when.

More detailed subscriber information, such as a customer’s preferred renewal method (e-mail, phone, postal), a notes field, solicitation code, as well as who sold the subscription, delivery

instructions and more.

The ability to notify customer service reps when routes are running late and why, among other features.

Customized searches: Each user can save commonly used searches so if a customer service rep frequently searches on, say, “phone number,” that search is just a click away. Each user has his or her own list of saved searches.

Easier access to distributor information: For instance, the ability to have different rates based on subscriber day pattern has been integrated. Distributors can have different drop addresses for different days of the week, and more.

Other tasks have been cleaned up and better organized, as well, Bray said. For example, CirculationPro 3.0 includes better integration of editions, subscriber taxes and distributor taxes.
