After an extensive public beta test period, Palm, Inc. has released Palm Desktop 4.0 for the Macintosh. The new version of Palm’s software incorporates support for Mac OS X and many new features.
Beside Mac OS X support, new features in Palm Desktop 4.0 include support for vCard and vCal files, making it possible for Palm Desktop 4.0 users to share information with Microsoft Entourage X, Mac OS X Address Book, and Palm Desktop for Windows. Privacy has been improved as well: Records marked private can now be hidden and forced not to print.
Palm Desktop 4.0 also supports Japanese, French, Italian, German and Spanish — beta versions in those languages are available for download.
Palm Desktop 4.0 for the Mac requires any Palm-branded handheld, a PowerPC-based Mac, Mac OS 9x with 12MB of available memory, or Mac OS X 10.1.2 or higher, 25MB available hard disk space, 800 x 600 graphics resolution, and an available USB port if used with the Palm USB Universal Cradle or PalmConnect USB Kit. (Serial ports and PalmConnect Serial Cables continue to be supported in Mac OS 9 only).
