ReportMill Software — which provides business intelligence solutions for companies that are building internet and intranet applications — has released ReportMill 5, a developer tool that provides dynamic PDF and Flash documents and reports for Java applications. The new version is written entirely in Java and runs on all major platforms with support for all Java based Web application servers, including those from Apple.

ReportMill generates content that’s either interactive and scrollable (in Flash) or paginated and printable (in PDF) — all from the same template. It’s integrated with Apple’s WebObjects 5.
ReportMill 5 generates content directly from objects inside Java applications through a process known as “Object Reporting,” which lets developers present their business logic as professionally crafted documents with no wiring and just a few lines of code, according to Jeff Martin, ReportMill CEO. It also has a page layout application for template design. Data binding is achieved using the mail-merge paradigm. At runtime, developers tell the template object to generate a report with a given set of objects, then tell the report object to write as either PDF or Flash.
A fully functional evaluation version of ReportMill 5 is now available as a direct launch from your browser at the product Web site. List pricing starts at US $495 per developer and $4,995 for a single processor deployment license. Volume pricing does apply.
