United Developers subsidiary MacPlay today announced the release of Icewind Dale. Earlier this month MacPlay announced that the game had gone gold master, the last step before production.

Icewind Dale was originally developed for the PC by Interplay’s Black Isle Studios. Based on Bioware’s Infinity game engine — the same used in Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II, for example — Icewind Dale is a sprawling role playing adventure game which follows Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Third Edition Rules.
In this game you and your party — comprised of up to six individual characters — make your way across and under the Spine of the World, a range of ice-covered mountains far to the north in the Forgotten Realms. You’ll collect treasure, fulfill quests and battle vicious monsters in a classic “dungeon crawl”-style adventure game.
In addition to support for both “Classic” Mac OS and Mac OS X, Icewind Dale also features TCP/IP-based multiplayer support and support for the popular Mac-only online gaming service GameRanger.
