CMS Peripherals has announced the release of a new 60GB version of its ABSplus, an automatic backup system that supports the Mac (including Mac OS X). The ABSplus has been designed for laptop computers, but it works with any FireWire or USB system. The new 60GB configuration is available for US$799.

ABSplus provides a complete backup system after a quick install. Once it’s set up, all users need to do is plug in the ABSplus to begin a backup. ABSplus has been developed to withstand a non-operating shock of up to 800Gs and operating temperatures ranging from 5 degrees to 55 degrees celsius. ABSplus can be used as an additional drive volume as well.
ABSplus was first introduced to Mac users at Macworld Expo in San Francisco, Calif. this past January. The system works with Mac OS 8.6 or higher. CMS Peripherals president Ken Burke called the reaction from Mac users at that event overwhelming.
“We have a lot of exciting news for Mac users over the coming months, however it was very clear that a higher capacity ABSplus for Mac was an immediate priority. We are pleased to provide 60GB capacity automatic backup for Mac users today as evidence of our commitment to this community,” said Burke.
The system is also available in lower capacities all the way down to 10GB, with prices down to $279.
