SoftCare GmbH today announced the introduction of a new 15 user “Starter Pack” of its K4 Publishing System v3.2. Developed specifically for magazine publishers, K4 Publishing System combines Adobe’s InDesign and InCopy page layout and copy editing software with an open and scalable SQL-based database system that can run from either a PC or Mac.

The K4 Publishing System has been developed as a workflow for graphic designers and editors creating magazines. Several users can work on different elements of pages simultaneously — editors can write articles while designers and layout artists work on the actual format. Page geometry and article text can be updated, and all data can be accessed from within InDesign and InCopy directly. The software supports both layout and text-driven workflows, and many other features.
Additionally, the company today announced that users who purchase the K4 Publishing System now are eligible for a free upgrade to version 4.0 when it’s released. The new version supports InDesign and InCopy 2.0, and will be released simultaneously with InCopy 2.0.
The K4 Publishing System is already used in installations with up to 250 users. This new “Starter Pack” helps provide smaller publishers with a solution that they haven’t been able to afford, said SoftCare managing director Andreas Schrader.
“With K4, we can now offer small publishers an affordable database solution that is easy to maintain and satisfies their every need,” said Schrader.
