Waves in Motion, a developer of FileMaker Pro solutions, today released the Dragon Web Surveys & Web Quizzes 6.5, a powerful, cross-platform FileMaker Pro Web survey and Web quiz tool, which allows users to create, publish and tabulate internet-based surveys and quizzes with no html programming needed.

The Dragon serves as one centralized repository for databases, surveys, and quizzes. Version 6.5 includes quiz support instead. Instead of just building surveys you can now build quizzes, according to Vincenzo Menanno of Waves in Motion. A quiz has two question types it can support (single choice, value choice), and each question has a score that can be gained if the correct answer is provided.
“You can still use branching when building a quiz,” Menanno said. “Take the respondent to a section of related questions if they don’t answer a question correctly.”
Dragon Web Surveys & Web Quizzes 6.5 offers point tracking. Users can now also track points for each individual answer. Behind the scenes The Dragon keeps track of all the points a respondent accumulates as they go through a survey, Menanno said. Once the response has been compiled, you can view the total point score or export it and sort them in order of highest points.
“You can use points for just about anything; like helping you find you next prospective customer or to address immediate concerns or issues in your business or organization,” Menanno said.
Version 6.5 of the Dragon also offers “anonymous support.” Each survey or quiz now supports the ability to hide the originating information about who submitted the response, giving respondents a maximum degree of confidentiality. It also has a new interface and improved notification.
“We have revamped our look and added some embellishments to improve the readability and information that is provided to the survey administrator,” Menanno said. “And we’ve added support for SMTPit (an e-mail plug-in for FileMaker Pro), so that e-mails can be sent directly from within FileMaker when a survey/quiz is set to strict authentication.”
Reports have also been improved to provide better for lengthy questions, he added. A new option has been added to The Dragon Web Surveys that lets you dedicate a computer to process all your responses on idle time, allowing you to receive answers without the need to process them right away this machine is dedicated to processing. And what about those likert scale labels and the ability to randomize answers?
“Many users wanted more flexibility when building likert scale questions,” Menanno said. “We listened and responded with custom labels for the likert scale choices. Also, sometimes it is useful to randomize the answers to questions for quizzes.
The update also includes the ability to create custom headers and footers. They can be implemented to show up in every survey of a particular organization.
The Dragon Web Surveys & Web Quizzes 6.5 requires FileMaker 5 Unlimited or higher with a dedicated IP address. For users who don’t own FileMaker Unlimited, a run-time version is available for remote hosting. For additional information and to download Dragon, cruise on over to the product Web site.
Pricing is US$895 — and $50 per additonal users. Educational and non-profit discounts are available.
Many Dragon customers are in universities, medical research institutions, and market research firms. One reason for the app’s popularity in such environments is that it doesn’t burden users with the extraneous details that some online survey generators do, Menanno said.
