Microtek has released ScanWizard Pro 7.0 software specifically for its ScanMaker 8700 Pro Design scanner. If you’re going to grab it, though, you had better do it quick: Microtek said that for two weeks only, Mac users will be able to grab the OS X version as a free download from the Microtek Web site.

The new version has support for Mac OS X’s Aqua user interface, and Microtek said that its software engineers have “worked tireless” to adhere as closely as possible to Apple’s user interface guidelines for Mac OS X applications.
The ScanMaker 8700 Pro Design was released last summer. The flatbed scanner offers 42-bit, 2400 x 1200 dot per inch single-pass scanning capabilities. The device features a dual FireWire USB 1.1 interface, and sports an integrated transparency bay for scanning positive and negative films.
Microtek has also offered a preliminary Mac OS X software release schedule for users of other Microtek scanners.
The week of May 15, users of ArtixScan 1100 and 4500t models should see ScanWizard Pro updated for their systems. And during the week of August 1, ArtixScan 2020 and 2500 systems will be added to the list.
On July 15, Microtek expects to release ScanWizard Pro TX software for AritxScan 4000t users.
And ScanWizard 5 is also being updated for Mac OS X, too. July 15 should see that software’s release for ScanMaker 3800, 4800, 5600 and 8700 models. A month later on August 15, Microtek will update ScanWizard 5 to support ScanMaker 4700, 5700, and X12USL models.
To download ScanWizard Pro for Mac OS X, you’ll need a User Name and Password. The information corresponds to the first four digits of your Genuine Fractals Print Pro software serial number (software that was included with the ScanMaker 8700 Pro Design). You’ll also need to have the serial number of your scanner handy. For more details, visit Microtek’s Web site.
