The new update introduces two utilities written for Mac OS X: Integrity X and QuickBench X. The new applications are complete rewrites of Classic Mac OS versions designed to take full advantage of Mac OS X, according to Intech.
Also added in this new version is support for ATA-6 extended drives for Classic Mac OS. That means that Hard Disk SpeedTools can support drives of more than 128GB in OS 9. Intech noted that there are “serious issues” with Mac OS X and extended ATA drives — so they’re not supported through Mac OS X 10.1.3. The company has set up a Web page for more information about Mac OS X-related issues.
Other changes include a modified partition map structure that works better with Mac OS X 10.1; support for restart and shutdown ejection for FireWire removable devices; write protection feature improvements under Mac OS X; recognition of new PowerPC G4 CPU types; improved bad sector detection and repair on FireWire and USB drives; and driver support for FireWire-based Sony MemoryStick readers.
