Nemetschek North America announced today the release of a new modeling extension called VectorWorks 3D Power Pack. The software addition plugs into all VectorWorks 9.5.1 products and adds advanced solid and surface modeling capabilities previously not possible with the software. Best of all, the software is being offered as a free download from the 3D Power Pack Web site. (If you don’t want to download it, a CD-ROM is available for a nominal fee, also.)

VectorWorks products already sport advanced 2D drafting features, as well as dimensioning and notation and presentation capabilities. The new plug-ins add 3D commands like the ability to create sections from almost any shaped surface, stitch and trim surfaces to create complex free-form shapes, and define a smooth fillet surface between two adjacent surfaces.
Tools can also be used to create contours of a solid or surface at user-defined intervals and direction, according to the developer. You can create organic shapes by lofting through 3D cross sections, for example, remove sharp corners or create hollow shells from solid objects.
VectorWorks users can then export their models as 3D IGES files, to be read by other IGES-capable CAD or CAM programs.
3D Power Pack also makes improvements to the existing commands and tools in VectorWorks products. Visit the Web site for complete details.
System requirements for the 3D Power Pack call for a VectorWorks 9.5.1 or later product, along with Mac OS 8.6 and CarbonLib 1.2.5 or later, or Mac OS X 10.1 or later.
