Sorenson Media, the company that provides streaming media solutions and delivery services, announced the preview availability of the Sorenson MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile video codec today at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) conference and exhibition in Las Vegas.
The new version, built on the foundation of the MPEG-4 standard, offers high encoding and decoding performance. This codec has been ported to several platforms, including the Mac OS and Windows. Sorenson not only offers technology for decoding, but also software development kits for those wanting to employ Sorenson MPEG-4 technology in encoding applications and development environments.
“Just as we have done with companies such as Apple and Macromedia, we now offer yet another high-quality codec which we think will foster growth of the broad-based networked-media ecosystem,” said Matt Cupal, senior vice president of technology and business development for Sorenson Media. “To make this solution even more appealing to systems developers, we’re offering, in addition to the core codec, a rich set of SDKs that address the entire compression and delivery value chain.”
Available now, all licensing opportunities are negotiable through Sorenson Media’s Business Development group. Also expect the company to announce the availability of Sorenson Squeeze for Macromedia Flash MX and Sorenson Squeeze for QuickTime on the Mac platform in the near future.
